You Can't Fire a Canon From a Canoe

This workout shows a way of attacking a leg day.  There are many workout programs but to maximize our performance we need to attack workouts in a progression after a dynamic warm up:

  1. Speed
  2. Power
  3. Strength
  4. Power endurance and then finish up with
  5. Finishing exercises. (click title to read more)

Draw: Isolating Technique, Pushing Ourselves

We were working draws and focusing on the fundamental technique from concepts to the actual technique. The concepts include only recruiting muscles required to accomplish the desired task. The practical techniques include driving the finger tips to the gun. This progression of videos has an undercurrent of pushing ourselves and not being content with where we are at and driving our abilities to push harder.

Dotson Drill

This drill was created by Officer Derrick Dotson. Simply put the drill is brilliant. I find that I have to transition my eyes from the moving balls to the sights aggressively to get shots. I can point shoot at close range, but at distance I need my sights and trigger control.

I love this drill. It is so darn addicting. Lets not shoot static targets. This drill is hard and you can tell by all the mikes (misses) Thomas and I throw.

Get Low 1: Drills Under the Cage, Mike Hughes shows a set up to train staying low when shooting

This video introduces the "cage" where we are forced to stay low while doing drills. The cage mandates that we stay low and not creep up. Getting low and being comfortable in a crouch is a 1000 mile journey. Staying low requires leg strength, hip mobility and balance. All of these skill sets are not something that can be mastered in a training session, a week or even a year.

Its a 1000 mile journey but getting lower has numerous benefits. A "Cage" will force us to stay low while doing drills.
In this drill Thomas and I are getting a lot of reps in and we have to stay low when we slam into position. You can test this yourself and see if you get stable more quickly when you come into position low.
